The accused, Ramanand Saha, was working in a company at Marcaim Industrial Estate and wanted money for his sister’s marriage on July 8.
According to DySP Sunita Sawant, S V Mohan, Manager (Admin) of Goa Ispat, Marcaim, on June 16 complained that he noticed foul smell emanating from the room of the deceased, Akhtar Ali (30), who is also from UP. The room was located in the company campus.
Acting on the complaint, the police rushed to the site and found the room locked from outside and Ali was found lying on the bed. “We rushed to the site with dog squad and scientific assistants. The Panchnama was conducted and the body was sent for post-mortem. We found he was strangulated to death and his Adam’s apple was severely fractured,” she said.
Ramanand Saha, who has been with the company since last three months, was arrested in the connection.
Police said he was to leave Goa for UP on June 28 with cash for his sister’s wedding. He committed the crime on June 15 afternoon, when Ali was sleeping alone in his room. Police had suspected Saha’s involvement, as he
repeatedly changed his statements during primary
interrogation.
DySP Sawant informed that day before the incident, the salaries were paid to them. “Knowing this, the accused killed Ali while he was sleeping in his room. Both had joined the duty on June 15 morning, but as the welding machine was busy with other worker, they went gone to their respective rooms.”
She said when the company supervisor tried to contact the deceased over mobile phone, it was found switched off.
Ali was working in the company since last three years and was drawing salary of Rs 15,000, while Saha was drawing a salary of Rs 7,000.
According to DySP Sawant, the accused has confessed having committed the crime after learning to fracture the Adam’s apple of a person by watching the Hindi movie
‘Tiranga’.
The accused has been arrested and remanded to 10 days police custody. The offence has been registered under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code and police is investigating the case.
