In a joint breakthrough that connects crimes across two States, the Tilakwadi Police in Belagavi have arrested two Hubballi-based youths involved in a string of chain-snatching incidents in both Belagavi and Goa, recovering gold ornaments worth Rs 10.25 lakh.
The arrests come amid a rise in chain-snatching cases in Belagavi city, particularly in areas like Sarvodaya Colony. Acting under the guidance of ACP (Khadebazar Sub-Division) Shekharappa H and leadership of Inspector Parashuram Pujari, the Tilakwadi Police team tracked down the accused — Aman Deepak Raut (22) from Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, and Nagaraj Basappa Haranishikari (19) from Koppal, Karnataka, both residing in Hubballi.
Investigations revealed that the duo operated as part of an interstate chain-snatching network, targeting women in public places and escaping across state borders to avoid detection. They were involved in three cases in Belagavi — under Tilakwadi, APMC and Khade Bazaar Police Stations — and two additional cases in Goa’s Margao Police Station limits.
Police have seized gold ornaments valued at Rs10,25,000, which were linked to all five cases.
The investigation team comprised PSI Vishwanath Ghantamath, Prabhakar Doli, and staff members Mahesh Patil, SM Karlingannavar, Ladjisab Multani, Nagendra Talwar, and Satish Giri.
