The Crime Branch busted an IPL betting racket and arrested 14 persons from a rented villa in Porvorim, in a raid conducted late Thursday evening.
Superintendent of Police (Crime Branch) Nidhin Valsan informed that the accused, 13 of whom are natives of Chhattisgarh and one from Bihar, were caught red-handed while accepting bets on the IPL cricket match between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.
The raiding team seized Rs 38,000 cash, 47 mobile phones, one laptop, LED TVs, net routers, set-top boxes, one router modem, and other gaming electrical accessories from their possession, worth around Rs 25.38 lakh. Valsan said the accused are booked under sections 3 and 4 GDDPG Act.
A similar case was registered last month when the Crime Branch arrested four persons from Delhi in Anjuna for accepting online bets on Pakistan Super League.
