Congress leader Janardhan Bhandari and Goa Forward Party Environment Cell Chairman Vikas Bhagat were granted anticipatory bail, fearing arrest after they were booked for allegedly locking PWD engineers in their office at Canacona.
According to reliable sources, after Canaocna police registered an FIR under Sections 342, 353, 451, 186 r/w 34 IPC against Bhandari, Bhagat and two others for criminal trespass, wrongfully confinement of the PWD (Roads) Assistant Engineer in his cabin by putting a lock and obstructing him while discharging his lawful duty. The police were on the lookout for them.
Bhandari and Bhagat, however, moved to the Sessions Court, Margao for anticipatory bail and the court granted the anticipatory bail on Friday. Adv Viraj Nagekar appeared on behalf of Bhandari and Bhagat in the Sessions Court.
Earlier, upset over the PWD’s indifferent approach to tackling bad roads in Canacona, the activists reacted in an unusual manner by locking the PWD (roads) assistant engineer and junior engineer in their office at Canacona for two hours on Wednesday morning.
