Claiming that all Congress party workers had come together with the purpose of defeating the communal forces, corruption and U-turns, former minister and Canacona's Congress candidate Isidore Fernandes appealed to the people to give him one more chance to prove himself.
Speaking to The Goan after filing his nomination papers, Fernandes said, “The electorate is also eager to reply to the massive mismanagement in the demonetisation of Rs 1000 & Rs 500 notes.”
When asked to comment on his rivals, Fernandes added, “By now, most people are aware of their contribution to the society. You have seen Poi Khot for two terms and Tawadkar as minister for one term. Give me one more chance to serve you.”
Fernandes submitted his nomination papers to Returning Officer Kedar Naik in the presence of Daya Pagi, Janardhan Bhandari and Mahadev Naik, all three Congress ticket aspirants, indicating that all four leaders had patched their differences and were a united front.
Some time later, Tawadkar arrived along with a large number of his supporters. He stood outside for some time and then entered the returning office's cabin soon after Fernandes came out and submitted his papers.
Later in the evening, AAP candidate Sandesh Telekar also submitted his nomination papers.
