Taking up the issue, Navelim legislator Luizinho Faleiro recalled an instance of how he was offered drugs during a visit to Arambol during the campaign days.
"I was led to a lane in the village by the local youth and along that lane one foreigner approached me. He then removed some drugs from his pocket and asked me if I wanted to buy," Faleiro said.
"If this has happened to me, then what about the common people who are approached?" Faleiro asked referring to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's statement that he wants real information on drugs.
San André legislator said that drugs are being openly sold in night clubs along the beach belt. He said that drugs were being offered even to college-going and school-going children.
Aldona MLA Glenn Souza Ticlo demanded that the kingpins of the drug rackets should be apprehended. "It is the responsibility of the police to ensure that the kingpins are caught. It is important that the police should nab them," Ticlo said. Others who raised the issue included Churchill Alemão and Dayanand Sopte.
