Job letters for Mopa Dhangars next week

NGT stay on their displacement continues

PANAJI
Besides alternate land, structures and community infrastructure, members of the fourteen Dhangar families who are to be displaced by the upcoming airport, will now get one job per family to be given by the GMR Goa International Airport Ltd, with the offer letters likely to be handed over next week.
The news comes on the back of the cabinet having already approved a rehabilitation package for the fourteen Dhangar families who were to be given 800 square metres of land each, including a 50 sq metre goat shed, a community hall, a crematorium, approach roads, electricity and water supply besides also grazing rights over 20,000 square metres of land in the same Survey No. 207 of Casarvornem village in Pernem taluka.
The news comes even as the stay against the shifting of the families continues.
The National Green Tribunal had ordered that none of the fourteen families to be displaced by the upcoming Mopa be shifted out and the stay continues to this date.
"We direct the project proponent to maintain status-quo and not to shift the fourteen occupants," the tribunal said in its order passed in December last year. The NGT is hearing a petition filed by the Rainbow Warriors of Mopa against the Environmental Clearance granted to the Mopa Airport.
