VASCO
Vasco police have arrested a second accused, Suraj Naik of Chicalim in connection with the jobs-for-cash scam reported at Vasco.
Vasco police had earlier arrested Govind Manjrekar on Sunday in the case while Suraj Naik was arrested on Monday.
The accused Govind Manjrekar, who was arrested on Sunday, was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class by the Vasco police on Monday where his advocate Savio Noronha managed to secure Manjrekar a conditional bail to furnish a bond of Rs 10,000 and reporting to the Vasco police station between 9 am to 5 pm for the next eight days.
It may be recalled that the Vasco police had registered an offense against two Vasco residents, Govind Manjrekar and Suraj Naik, for allegedly cheating a local woman, Sakshi Sudarshan Kerkar, of Rs 4.3 lakh. The incident reportedly took place between March 1 and May 31, 2023, during which the accused promised to secure a government position for her but failed to fulfil their promise.
According to the complaint filed by Kerkar of New Vaddem, the two accused induced her to pay Rs 4.3 lakh under the pretence of securing her a position in the education department as a multi-task staff. However, after receiving the money, the accused allegedly neither provided her with the promised job nor returned the funds.
Further investigation is being carried out by PSI Carey Fernandes of the Vasco police station under the supervision of PI Kapil Nayak and with the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
