Former union minister Ramakant Khalap stated that Vasco, which was once a bustling port, has been doomed in the last four years of BJP governance as the government closed down the mining sector.
He was speaking on the occasion of former minister and NCP president Jose Philip D’Souza's birthday on Sunday.
Khalap, former chief minister Digambar Kamat and NCP senior vice-president Trajano D’Mello felicitated Fr Adolf of St Andrew Church, Vasco, Ramesh Vasudev Joshi Bhat of Lord Damodar temple and Maulana of Vasco Masjid Mauludin Khan.
Addressing the gathering, Khalap stated that Vasco port is doomed since closure of mining as this has not only affected three lakh-odd mining dependents, but also other related mining industries,” said Khalap.
“No one from the BJP government is bothered to know the problems faced by mining dependents and other related industries, as this government is only of the rich people,” alleged Khalap.
Khalap urged the people to vote and elect D’Souza and change the government, as BJP has failed to live up to its manifesto.
Speaking on the occasion Kamat said the BJP came to power by painting the Congress government black and during the last four years of governance, it failed to live up to its manifesto.
D’Souza complimented the people for attending his birthday celebration in large number and assured that he will always be with the people.
“I have come from a humble and poor family and know the problems faced by the common man due to inflation.”
D’Souza added that during his political career he never tried to disturb any private functions, but the BJP workers and their leaders threatened his supporters.
While commenting on his contesting the next assembly election, D’Souza said in the next few days he will personally visit houses of all the constituents.
Others who spoke on the occasion included former Velim MLA Filipe Neri Rodrigues, NCP senior vice president Trajano D’Mello and other NCP leaders.
