Mapusa BJP MLA Joshua D'Souza is likely to be the next deputy speaker and will also be given the chairmanship of the Mormugao PDA.
The post of deputy speaker has been vacant following the resignation of Subhash Faldesai after he was appointed a minister.
“I have been told informally by the party and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant that I will be the next deputy speaker. However, there is no official confirmation yet. I will fill the form for the post of deputy speaker if the party gives me a chance,” said D’Souza.
Joshua said the picture will be clear on Monday once he files his nomination.
“The deputy speaker is a good post and you get to gain knowledge from the position,” justified D'Souza.
“This post gives an opportunity to control the whole House. Many people don't know how important the post is and maintaining an assembly is not an easy job", he said.
Joshua said he would also be made the chairperson of Mormugao PDA, adding that a notification to the effect is likely to come on Monday.
