After a two-month summer break, schools are set to reopen on June 4, coinciding with the Lok Sabha election counting on the same day.
Education Director Shailesh Zingde confirmed that there are no plans to reschedule the reopening date. “As of now, we are maintaining the June 4 date for schools to reopen,” he told The Goan.
When questioned about the possibility of postponement, Zingde highlighted concerns regarding the reduction in instructional days if delayed. He also pointed out the challenge of accommodating demands related to heavy rains, if any, particularly during periods of red alert.
Regarding textbooks, there had been previous indications from the government that Class III and Class VI books would shift to the NCERT curriculum in line with the National Education Policy (NEP). However, Zingde mentioned that a decision on this matter has been postponed as NEP will be implemented for Class IX for the upcoming academic year.
“There will be no changes in textbooks,” he stated. Several schools, which initially advised parents to await NCERT books, have now announced to proceed with SCERT books. The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) was awaiting delivery of the materials from the NCERT before initiating the printing process for these textbooks.
Meanwhile, the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education have scheduled HSSC supplementary exams from May 27 to June 7.
