NEP: Sports weightage unlikely to change in new system

PANAJI
The weightage to sports in academics at the school level is unlikely to change much in the new system under the National Education Policy and the old process of adding the earned marks to a student's aggregate or individual subjects score to either let them pass or achieve qualification benchmarks is likely to continue.

There is no specific mention of either credits or consideration for students' sports achievements during the academic year in the NEP scheme drawn by the education officials.

The only mention is of the routine, non-academic physical education subject which is to now also include yoga under the NEP.

A top official however said that sports are not ommitted or neglected under the NEP but the old system of adding marks, according to achievements, to the aggregate score of the student will continue.
