Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has said it is most unfortunate to realise that the BJP government will continue with its mission of suppressing the voices of Opposition in the New Year 2023. Yuri said the notification issued by the Goa Legislative Secretary on Thursday on summoning of the third session of the eighth Legislative Assembly has once again exposed anti-democratic agenda of the BJP government.
Sharply reacting to the notification issued by Goa Legislative Secretariat of just four days session from January 16 to 19, 2023, the Leader of Opposition has said that BJP government is worried of the Opposition.
“Year 2023 begins with Monday to Thursday four-day 3rd Session of 8th Goa Legislative Assembly with three effective days allotted for Business of House as 1st Day goes for Governor’s Address. No Working on Friday resulting in No Private Members Business, No Private Members Bills & Resolutions, pointed Yuri.
“I am feeling sad that the Schedule released by the Legislative Secretariat will deprive me from my right to introduce a Bill or Resolution on Stopping Unjust Practice of Widow Discrimination in Goa,” Yuri said.
He added: “In the last Assembly Session, Opposition made optimum use of Private Members Business Days with Private Members Resolutions & Bills demanding scrapping of 3 Linear Projects, Recognition for Chieftains Revolt of Cuncolim, Permanent Pension Scheme for Seafarers & others. Is government worried now?
He said Opposition MLA Viresh Borkar had given notice for introduction of Bill of Person of Goan Origin, Vijai Sardesai had given notice for a Bill on Employment to Goans while Venzy Viegas had prepared a Bill on Cruelty to Animals. Although the Bills were sent to Law Department last time, Opposition will not get any opportunity even to give notice of introduction of any bills this time, Yuri said.
