Tribute is given in a different way – in Saxti, especially for the celebs and birthdays of politicians are celebrated by penning and singing Kantars on them by Saxtikars. A fresh example of this is the Kantar sung on Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s birthday, on April 24.
Penned by Goa’s master composer Edwin D’Costa, better known as ‘King of Konkani Albums’ and sung by a class VIII student Anle Barbosa, the song has become an instant hit and received 25,000 views in less than two days.
The BJP leader from Curtorim Anthony Barbosa has produced and released the video in honour of Goa’s CM. His daughter Anle Barbosa, a student at Perpetual Succour Convent High School Navelim has sung the Konkani Kantar which went viral across Goa and among Goans living abroad.
“We, Saxtikars are known for our peculiarity,” says Anthony, adding, “The lyrics of the song are by the fastest composer in Goa, Edwin D'Costa who wrote it within two hours, and it took altogether eight hours for us to shoot the video.”
The 13-year-old singer Anle has performed in a tiatr ‘Zhadda-Tengxer’ by Marcus Gonsalves that bagged first place in Children’s Tiatr Competition organised by Tiatr Academy of Goa. Anle also sung in Nazario Pinto’s tiatr ‘Conversion’ and her school’s tiatr ‘Dennem Dilem Devan’. She has participated in Konkani Musical Show at Telaulim ‘Oh Moga’ held by YMCT Entertainment. “My headmistress Sr Libia Fernandes, Dr Sneha Bhagwat, Nazario Pinto, Marcus Gonsalves, George Gonsalves and many others encouraged me for my singing,” said a thankful Anle.
