Building up pressure on the Centre for the implementation of the Kalsa-Bhandura water diversion project, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Friday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and discussed various developmental issues about the State, including the Kalsa-Bhandura water-sharing project with Goa.
During the meeting that lasted 15 minutes at the Parliament House, Yediyurappa appealed to Modi to take necessary action for early approvals and necessary clearances for irrigation and drinking water projects, including Mekedatu and Kalsa-Bhandura, to utilise the precious water resources allocated to the state.
It may be recalled that earlier this week, Karnataka WRD Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi had called on Union Minister of Water Resources Gajendra Singh Shekhawat urging him to give necessary clearances for the implementation of Kalsa-Bhandura water diversion project.
Apart from the Kalsa-Bhandura water project, Yediyurappa also made a plea to the prime minister to revise the items and norms of assistance from State Disaster Response Fund or National Disaster Response Fund for the current year itself, to ensure timely and adequate financial assistance to the distressed people.
He also urged the prime minister to declare Upper Krishna Project Stage-III and Upper Bhadra Project as National Projects.
