Anjuna Police booked a Karnataka native on charges of killing his sister by smashing her head with a cricket bat in a rented room at Nagoa in Bardez.
The accused, Shekhappa Lamani (20), who was the younger brother of the victim, has been traced at his native place at Gadag in Karnataka and is being brought to Goa.
The incident happened on Wednesday but came to light on Friday after the owner of the rented room, Dasharath Arolkar, informed the Anjuna Police that a foul smell was emanating from the room although it was locked from outside.
Anjuna PI Suraj Gawas along with his staff rushed to the site and after initial inquiry, broke open the door only to find the decomposed body of the woman on a bed. “The head of the victim was seen smashed with the help of a cricket bat,” the PI informed.
During the investigation, it was found the victim was staying with her younger brother, Shekhappa Lamani, in the rented room.
Police informed that the victim was working as a maid while the accused was unemployed and was living on his sister’s earnings. It was also found that the accused used to frequently fight with his sister for money. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s elder brother who is residing at Baga, Hemappa Lamani, Anjuna Police booked an offence under section 302 of the IPC.
A team of Anjuna Police headed by PSI Amir Taral was deputed to Gadag in Karnataka to trace the accused.
With the help of Gadag Rural Police, the accused, Shekhappa Lamani, was finally traced and is now being brought to Goa.
