Violent attack on Navelim man sparks outrage among residents

MARGAO
A violent attack on Navelim resident, 34-year old Cenvic Pires, by two persons Ayub Sayed and Anil Kumar with koita and iron rod on Friday evening sparked outrage among Navelim and Telaulim residents on Saturday.

Even as the victim Cenvic  who hails from Dialgona-Telauilim is convalescing at the Hospicio hospital after he sustained injuries on the head and fracture on his right leg, residents of Navelim and Telaulim have threatened to take the law in their hands if the accused persons are left scot-free.

The Margao police has attributed the motive behind the incident to the request made by the victim to the two accused persons to remove their car which was allegedly parked on the middle of the road near Quba Masjid, Sirvodem-Margao.

In the FIR, the police has stated that the two accused restrained the victim who was travelling on his Activa scooter and assaulted him with a koita and iron rod on his head and right leg causing bleeding injuries.

The police has registered a case of attempt to murder against Ayub and Anil.

Accused Ayub (26), a resident of Fakirband-Calconda, Margao and Anil Kumar (37) working in a bakery, but a native of Chhattisgarh have been arrested by the police. They have since been remanded to five days police custody.

Meanwhile, residents of Navelim and Telaulim led by Aam Aadmi Party leader Pratima Coutinho called on the Margao police officials and other police officials demanding strict action against the two culprits.

Pratima told the media after calling on Margao police station in-charge, PI Sachin Narvekar that the people of Navelim will be left with no option than to take the law in their hands if the accused go scot-free. “The CCTV footage of the assault incident shows that the two accused persons assaulted the victim without rhyme or reason by removing the koita and iron rod from the car,” she said.

Claiming that the main accused Ayub is a habitual offender, Pratima said the accused had reportedly charged against the policemen recently, but no case was registered against him because of political influence.

A farmer Agostinho claimed that the accused has been harassing the farmers of Navelim, warning that the farmers will take the law in their hands to seek justice.
