PANAJI
Independent Karwar MLA Satish Sail on Friday appeared before the investigating team (mining) of Goa police in connection with the main mining case after he secured an anticipatory bail from the Panaji Sessions Court.
He was questioned for around four hours.
Sail had previously skipped the summons issued to him citing ill health of his mother in-law and informed the Goa Mining SIT that he has “pre-occupied arrangements”.
He had assured the investigating officer of his cooperation in the probe. Accordingly, fresh summons were issued to Sail ordering him to remain present before the police on Friday for questioning.
SIT had issued summons to Sail for questioning in connection with his alleged involvement in illegal mining activities. The summons was issued to Sail at his residence in Sadashivgad, Karwar by Police Inspector Dattaguru Sawant.
Sail is the Director of Mallikarjun Shipping Private Limited and has allegedly been involved in exports of illegal iron ore in Goa during the period 2007-2012 along with other unnamed fly-by-night traders and leaseholders. Earlier Sail was arrested by the CBI for his alleged involvement in illegal mining scam in Karnataka.
