The Pathshalla by Gomantak Sanskrutottejak Mandal (GSM) at Kavale has played a key role in shaping Sanskrit teachers and Hindu priests (purohit).

Students passing out from this institution serve either as Sanskrit teachers or as priests at many temples.

GSM Chairman Arun Desai on Thursday addressed a news conference in the institution and informed about the programmes they conduct to impart education of Hindu priests.

“The GSM was established in 1964 and work of the school started from 2003. Till date, over 400 students have passed out from this institution and are serving as Sanskrit teachers and priests,” said Desai.

“Children under 14 years are given admission and are imparted a seven-year course,” he said.

GSM has affiliated with Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapith Pune to provide higher secondary education named as “Kovid” and Bachelor of Arts named as “Visharad”. Also, a two-year Master of Arts named as “Paarangat” is imparted to students.

Apart from this, the Pathshalla is a centre for Bhartiya Vidyabhavam Mumbai and National Sanskrit Delhi.

Under the Yadnik curriculum, 16 rites are taught to students and they include rites from birth to death.

Desai has appealed to students to pursue these courses and serve society.
