The Police on Friday cautioned the senior citizens from Salcete not to entertain unknown persons in their homes as the strangers might prove to be burglars and criminals.

At an interaction with senior citizens at the Margao district police headquarters on Friday, Margao Sub-Divisional Police Officer, DySP Dinraj Govekar told the senior citizens to alert their neighbours in times of needs and emergencies before calling the police. “When you are lonely at home, the neighbour is an important person whom you can alert before the police comes on the scene," he told the senior citizens.

Asserting that the police has compiled a list of senior citizens at the police station level, DySP Dinraj Govekar said the police has directed the beat constables to ensure they visit the houses of the senior citizens, staying alone in their homes. “We have decided to give priority to the senior citizens, who are staying alone in their homes. The beat police and the control vans have been instructed to ensure that they respond quickly to senior citizens in need," he said.

Maina-Curtorim in-charge, PI Harish Madkaikar was also present at the interaction. The senior citizens also placed before the police their grievances, including the demand for intensifying police patrolling in the villages to keep the miscreants and anti-socials at bay.
