In yet another successful raid, Canacona Police arrested a 21-year-old LLB student from Kenya on charges of possessing cocaine, LSD and ecstacy tablets worth Rs 2.40 lakh at Palolem beach.
Elijah Malcolm Onyango, presently staying at Kolhapur-Maharashtra and on student visa, was picked up by a team of Canacona Police between 11.50 pm on Saturday and 2.30 am on Sunday from a parking lot at Palolem beach. The accused is doing LLB in Kolhapur.
When questioned about his motive of his presence at the place at odd hours, Onyango could not provide satisfactory answer and when searched found possessing three different types of narcotics items.
Later, police accounted cocaine (10.49 grammes) worth Rs 60,000, two perforated sheets of LSD weighing 0.33 milligrams worth Rs 80,000, 20 ecstasy tablets worth Rs 1 lakh, all worth Rs 2.40 lakh.
Also as part of panchanama, police confiscated a mobile phone, internet modem, wrist watch and wallet containing cash of Rs 2200 from the accused, before finally arresting him at 4 am on Sunday.
The police team led by PSI Tukaram Chawan, Prashal Dessai and other staff conducted the raid at Palolem under the supervision of Canacona PI Rajendra Prabhudessai.
The arrest of the accused was intimated to FRRO Panaji for intimating it to the concerned. Sources informed that the accused has been remanded till January 3.
This is the second major arrest by Canacona Police, who during the last week swooped on over Rs 5 lakh worth heist of Bangalore-based Anglo-Indian running a resort at Kodaikanal, allegedly involved in drugs trafficking in Goa.
Since the beginning of ensuing tourism season, Canacona Police so far booked about 11 anti-narcotics cases against drug peddlers, informed police sources.
