With heavy rains in the ghat section between Goa and Khanapur taluka, rivers in Khanapur taluka are overflowing and roads connecting Khanapur and Goa are getting closed as bridges have been submerged due to overflowing rivers and rivulets.
The Khanapur-Anmod road via Hemadaga which is a shortcut has been closed for vehicular traffic as the bridge on the Halatar Nullah has been submerged due to flooding of the river. Khanapur police have erected barricades on the road from either side banning entry to this road.
Motorists who had entered the road from either side had to face huge inconvenience as they had to turn back and take alternative roads to reach Goa and Belagavi.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjeev Patil has appealed to motorists not to use the short-cut road to Goa and vice versa till the water in Halatar Nullah recedes.
Meanwhile, Belagavi region has been receiving incessant rains since Wednesday night, due to which all major rivers in the district are in spate.
Over 50 bridges connecting Maharashtra have been submerged as the district authorities are on high alert. Deputy Commissioner Nitesh Patil assisted by SP Patil are personally monitoring the flood situation in the district.
Apart from setting up flood relief centres for humans and animals, assistance will be also taken from the NDRF teams in case of any extreme eventualities.
