Chairman and Managing Director of Konkan  Railway Corporation, Sanjay Gupta on Tuesday announced that  electrification of the entire Konkan railway route, which is presently  in progress, 

will be completed by March 2021 at an estimated cost of Rs  1100 crore.  

Gupta further said that Konkan railway’s three stations on  the Goa route, Margao, Karmali and Thivim, will be upgraded under the  tourism development plan at a cost of Rs 25 crore.  

Addressing the 29th Foundation Day celebration of the  Konkan railway at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Tuesday, the CMD said  that the Konkan railway has already set in motion the process to fill up  the vacancies that would be created by the retirement of 3000 employees  in the coming years.  

He announced that work on the construction of the 10 new  stations along with route and eight loop lines is presently in progress  and will be completed by March 2020.  

The KR CMD also took the opportunity to announce that the  KR will take steps to streamline the operation of the container yard at  Balli to bring to more business and revenue for the Corporation.  

October 15 marks a significant date as Konkan Railway  celebrates its 29th Foundation Day this year, the day that bought to  reality of the most challenging project to connect amazing Konkan with  the rest of India.  

Konkan Railway has generated operating surplus from the  start of its operational phase. During the financial year 2018-19,  Konkan Railway has achieved a net profit of Rs 102 crore. The turnover of  company during the financial year 2018-19 was Rs 2,898, which includes  project turnover of Rs 1,561 crore and operating turnover of Rs 1,264 crore.

Senior KR officials, however, pointed out that though the  Corporation has registered a profit in the last five years, it is also  facing various challenges, with the freight traffic coming down. The  official pointed out that though the management has drawn up plan to  take up new projects, the plan has not been fruitful till date, while  exuding confidence that the employees will support the decisions taken  by the Corporation in the future.

The innovative Automatic Train Examination System (ATES)  which is developed by Konkan Railway have been installed on various  zones of Indian Railways.  

RPF/Konkan Railway rescued 85 children from stations, 2257 offenders were fined and 1622 unauthorized vendors and  25 thieves were arrested.
