The Goa-Belagavi road has developed cracks at several places between Jamboti and Peeranwadi in Karnataka following heaving
rains, compelling state authorities to stop KTC bus services between Goa and Belagavi.
Due to continuous rains since the past eight days, a number of landslides were reported in the Chorla Ghat area, blocking traffic along the Goa-Belagavi
route. Authorities cleared the mud about two days ago and light traffic was permitted to ply along the route. However, buses
have stopped services as the road has been damaged between Jamboti and Peeranwadi in Karnataka.
The KTC had initially stopped its bus
services along the Goa-Belagavi route on account of the landslides at the
Chorla Ghat, but is yet to resume services due to the damaged road between Jamboti and Peeranwadi.
When contacted, Sattari Deputy Collector Mangaldas Gaonkar said light vehicles have begun plying along the Chorla Ghat,
but PWD officials have been instructed to keep a close watch on the Ghat area. “Further landslides
are possible at the
Chorla Ghat, but machinery has been stationed in the Ghat area to clear any
obstacles, if any,” said Gaonkar.
Commenting on the bus services between Goa and Belagavi, Gaokar said the damaged portion of the road between Jamboti
and Peeranwadi in Karnataka had made it impossible for KTC buses to use the road.
