Currently only being used in a few selected bus stands, the plan is to have the machines instead of cash. Speaking to The Goan, KTCL managing director Derrick Pereira Neto said the cashless move would encourage commuters to use their debit cards instead of cash.
“KTCL has accepted the assistance of the Corporation Bank in making the cashless mode of payment possible. They have started work by placing these machines in some bus stands so people can use their cards to pay for tickets instead of cash,” he said. At the moment, however, the machines placed at the Margao and Panjim bus stands are accepting payments for commuters using the seasonal pass scheme.
