Amid the ongoing debate over demolition of illegal houses on comunidade land, the Land Survey Department has formed a team of field surveyors to map the construction footprint and encroachments in the jurisdiction of the controversial Serula Comunidade.
The team of surveyors -- Shubam Gawas, Suraj Lotlikar, Dattaram Mandrekar, and Vivek Bude -- are expected to begin their work on the ground on December 18.
The move is sequel to a direction to the Land Survey Department by the Bombay High Court at Goa recently in one of the several cases of illegal encroachments in the Serula Comunidade which encompasses the eastern side of the highway on the fast-urbanizing Porvorim plateau.
The department following the team's work is expected to prepare plans which will show building footprints and 'occupied' areas in the Serula Comunidade, including noting the names of each occupier with the survey numbers.
The plan will then be placed for perusal of the High Court through the North Goa Administrator of Comunidades. The cost of the survey is being footed by the Serula Comunidade.
