PANAJI: With just four days to go for the Supreme Court ban on mining operations to come into force, all the three BJP MPs from the State -- Union Ayush Minister Sripad Naik (Lok Sabha MP - North Goa), Vinay Tendulkar (Rajya Sabha MP) and South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar are scheduled to call on BJP national president Amit Shah on Monday evening as a last ditch attempt to work out a solution to the mining imbroglio plaguing the State.
Before leaving for the national capital on Sunday evening, Vinay Tendulkar told 'The Goan' on the sidelines of the BJP Mahila convention at Adarsh hall, Margao on Sunday that all the three MPs from Goa will call on party president Amit Shah on Monday to impress upon the Centre the immediate need to bail out the state, more so the mining dependent people from the situation arising out of the impending mining closure from March 15.
Tendulkar said the meeting with the BJP national president Amit Shah will provide an opportunity for the three Goan MPs to highlight the grim scenario that would be arising out of the closure of the mining operations post March-15.
Replying to a question, Tendulkar said there was no delay on the part of the BJP government in the state and the centre to work out a solution to the issue. “There were talks in many quarters that the centre should promulgate an ordinance and save the situation for the mining dependents. But, the fact remains that Ordinance cannot be issued when the Parliament is in session,” he said.
He conceded that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar was closely pursuing the case and was devoting all his attention to work out a solution before he took ill. We are exploring various possibilities. Let us wait and see," he said.
South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, who also attended the programme, said the three MPs have indeed sought an appointment with the BJP president Amit Shah, exuding confidence that Shah will give an audience to the MPs and help work out a solution. “We are working out various options on how to tide over the situation that would arise after March 15,” Sawaikar said, denying there was any delay on the part of the centre or the state government in working out a solution.
The BJP government at the centre and the state had drawn flak from both the ruling as well as the opposition for their failure to work out a solution. Ruling MLAs Michael Lobo and Nilesh Cabral, besides Leader of the Opposition Babu Kavlekar and GPCC president Shantaram Naik had hit out at the govt over its delay in unveiling a plan to action to handle the situation post March-15.
