Cites videos showing officers in casinos, discos

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao called for strict warnings to be issued to IPS officers whose videos in discos and casinos have gone viral. Speaking on the floor of the House on Tuesday, Alemao claimed that the law and order situation in Goa is deteriorating.

Alemao stated that there is no fear among criminals in the State, alleging that police officers are often involved with criminal activities. He emphasised that the people of Goa have lost faith in the law enforcement system. “The law and order situation has sunk to its lowest,” he said.

Alemao pointed to the viral videos showing IPS officers in discos and casinos, asserting that strict warnings should be given to them. “There is absolutely no fear in the minds of criminals,” he added.

Referring to data on crimes against women, Alemao said, “that there were 238 cases in 2020, 259 in 2021, 285 in 2022, 296 in 2023, and 154 from January 2024 to date. Over the last five years, 1,230 cases of rape, molestation, and kidnapping have been registered, with only six resulting in convictions.

Additionally, Alemao highlighted that between 2020 and 2024, Goa registered 145 murders, according to the data tabled on the floor of the House.
