Shilpa Singh, the political science professor of Salgaocar Law College, Miramar, who drew the ire of RSS-affiliated students wing ABVP, said she will file her riposte to the college, which has sought an explanation of her teaching methods as well as lecture content.
In a replication of the Delhi ABVP v/s JNU kind of battle to capture intellectual space on campuses, the right-wing ABVP picked out Singh and served the college a 24-hour ultimatum to sack her. It also threatened an “aggressive agitation” if their demand is not met.
The College did not oblige and wrote back to the ABVP that it was not possible.
It, however, has sought an explanation from Singh on her teaching methods and content she uses, taking cognisance of the ABVP allegation that she uses anti-religious stuff in her teaching.
Academicians in Goa have come to Singh’s defence and have expressed shock that a politically affiliated student body is now attempting to influence teaching methods.
Late last week, professors from colleges across Goa teaching political science met via the online mode and backed Singh.
Singh meanwhile told The Goan that she will submit her reply to the college on Monday.
She also expressed her contempt for the intimidating tenor of the contents in the letter addressed to the college by the complainant student body.
ABVP has alleged that she teaches anti-religious things but has reportedly not pointed it out objectively.
Goa’s political science professors who met last week meanwhile rubbished the complaint, saying other than students attending the class none else had locus standi to object to proceedings inside the class, least of all a politically-affiliated student body such as the ABVP.
