SAVINGS DESPITE THE SUBSIDY!
* Though the State shells out Rs 5.10 for every unit of power, the consumer is charged Rs 2.92 per unit
* The State govt pays about Rs 3 as subsidy, which works out to over Rs 11 crore annually
* The Chief Minister says that this scheme will save Rs 5.5 crore even after provision of free bulbs
* The cost of LED bulb is Rs 400, while it has been obtained from the Centre at Rs 76 per bulb

The State will save 21 megawatts of power and Rs 5.5 crore after implementing the Jyotirmay Goa scheme across the State. The scheme aims at providing free LED bulbs for saving on power.
Speaking on the occasion of launching distribution of LED bulbs, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, “Usage of LED bulbs will help in saving power upto 80 per cent. Presently, though the State has to pay Rs 5.10 per unit, the consumer is charged Rs 2.92 per unit. We have to pay about Rs 3 as subsidy. Every year, we spend over Rs 11 crore on this subsidy. But through this scheme, we will save Rs 5.5 crore even after providing free bulbs to consumers.”
The cost of the bulb which is being provided under the scheme is Rs 400, while the Centre has made it available to the State Government at Rs 76 per bulb.
“Last week our government took a decision to provide the three bulbs free of cost to one household. If the consumer is interested in buying more, he can do so by paying Rs 76 per LED bulb from the electricity department”, he said.
The programme of distributing LED bulbs will be done at 227 locations across the State.

Three bulbs for every
household: Power Min

Admitting that there was a problem while distributing LED bulbs to the beneficiaries, Power Minister Milind Naik on Friday assured that every household will get three LED bulbs in next few days till July 17.
“We have distributed 90,000 LED bulbs all over Goa. I apologize to the beneficiaries for facing problems during distribution and I assure that in next few days till June 17, every household will get three LED bulbs,” Naik told The Goan.
“My constituency itself has 10,000 households, every household is allotted three bulbs and I need 30,000 bulbs which will be distributed in the coming days,” said Naik.
Naik informed that any member of the family can visit the distribution centre in respective areas with a Xerox copy of the electricity bill, ration card and Aadhar card and collect their three bulbs.
Mormugao MLA Carlos Almeida also distributed 2000 LED bulbs at Vasco Church premises. South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar gave away the bulbs.
Almeida said he will later distribute more bulbs at Vasco, Mangor and New Vaddem.
He added that he will install a Xerox machine at the church premises for the benefit of the beneficiaries and will shift it at different distribution centres in his constituency.
