Deputy Chief Minister Francisco D’Souza has directed the Superintendent of Police to carry out an impartial investigation in the Goa Housing Board irregularities case and to also ensure that no one was victimized.
He has also asked the SP to furnish a copy of the FIR to the embattled Goa civil services officer, Elvis Gomes, as it was his right to claim the document.
“Elvis Gomes was not in a position to take decisions when the alleged irregularities took place in Goa Housing Board. As an officer, he was in charge and responsible to take the proposal forward,” D’Souza said.
The deputy chief minister said he had met the Superintendent of Police V Gupta attached to ACB on Saturday morning and who briefed him about the case.
“The SP said that people who were in the GHB were also in the ministry i.e. the chairman of housing board was also a minister and the MD of the housing board was also under secretary of housing,” D’Souza said.
The SP suspected a conflict of interest in the deal and therefore an element of doubt, he said.
Another point that came to light during the discussion was that the property concerned belonging to GHB was sold before dropping the acquisition process.
“Some things did not match and the SP found that some decisions were suspect,” D’Souza said.
He said that the investigation was at preliminary stage.
“I asked the SP to do an impartial investigating so that nobody is victimized. I have also requested the SP to give a FIR copy to Elvis. He is entitled to the documents, so let him take the documents,” the deputy chief minister said.
