VASCO
After a gap of around 10 days, the malfunctioning lift at the electricity department office in Vasco began functioning much to the relief of customers and staff who were forced to use the stairs to go to different floors of the five-storeyed building.
It may be recalled that The Goan had highlighted the issue of the malfunctioning lift in the electricity department, causing severe hardships to customers and staff alike.
Several senior citizens had faced extreme difficulties while carrying out normal work of paying bills and other electricity-related works. Even the staff were facing hardships as they had to shuttle up and down the electricity department several times in the day.
Taking cognizance of The Goan report, the electricity department immediately swung into action and began repair and maintenance of the lift. However, the resumption of the lift was not without a sudden halt in services.
According to sources in the electricity department, the lift was in working condition but suddenly ceased to function and the maintenance company was called to ascertain the reason for sudden malfunctioning of the lift. “After a lot of struggle, they finally realised that someone (either customer or staff) had inadvertently pressed a button on the lift switching it over to the maintenance mode.”
“When the lift is switched into maintenance mode, it automatically ceases to operate. We have been struggling only to realise that the only fault was the lift going into maintenance mode,” said the source.
“The lift has finally been restored and we are also trying to figure a solution like covering and concealing that maintenance mode button by a sticker or an electrical tape so that such incidents don’t happen again,” the source added.
