Lightning kills 16 cattle at Bicholim Goshala

In a tragic incident, 16 cattle died after being struck by lightning at the Goshala in Sikeri-Bicholim on Sunday evening.

The Goshala provides shelter and care to cattle which are either abandoned or left on the road and presently looks after 600 cattle.

On Sunday evening, there were heavy rains, strong winds and lightning in Bicholim taluka, when lightning struck the Goshala and 16 cattle were killed on the spot. The shed was also damaged in the incident.

When contacted, the Goshala President Kamlakant Tari expressed great sadness over the loss of the 16 cattle.

“We have been caring for all these cattle and we are in shock over the loss of our cattle due to this natural calamity,” said Tari.

Several parts of Ponda taluka were without electricity since Saturday night and power was not restored in many areas till Monday evening as efforts were on to repair or replace the damaged electrical poles and cables. A number of youth also offered to help the electricity staff.
