Locals have strongly objected to plans by the education department to shift the Government Primary School (GPS) at Barazan to Khadki-Khotoda in Sattari.
The education department has plans to merge government primary schools which have a low student strength and as part of this move, the Barazan GPS is likely to be shifted to Khadki-Khotoda.
Unhappy with these plans, a number of locals from Barazan marched to the Assistant District Education Inspector’s office at Valpoi on Wednesday, to voice their objection and submit a memorandum.
They claimed that the GPS has been running from Barazan since the last 40 years and it was unfair to shift the school to Khadki.
ADEI officials Srirang Barve and Bhalchandra Bhave tried to explain the situation to the locals but they were in no mood to listen and warned their children would be admitted to private schools instead of being sent to the Khadki Government primary school.
According to locals, 31 children from Barazan and Patwal villages are studying at the Barazan GPS.
The ADEI told the parents that the memorandum would be sent to the education department and explained that a final decision would be taken by the government.
