Blame in on the heavy rains or simply the failure of the authorities to replace the ageing makeshift culvert, residents of Varca have urged the government to put a new culvert over the Varca creek for the benefit of the visitors and local fishermen.

The  makeshift culvert was erected over the creek (handi) over a decade ago to facilitate visitors to cross over to the beach.

With the creek flowing in full spate carrying the rain water into the Arabian sea, the makeshift culvers seemed to have come under strain.

Varca panchayat member pointed out that the heavy flow of water in the creek has caused further damage to the culvert.

“The culvert is primarily used by the tourists and the fishermen to cross over to the beach”, they said, while demanding that the government put a new culvert over the creek before the onset of the new season.
