Locals storm electricity office in Valpoi over major outage

WANT OVERHEAD WIRES REPLACED WITH UNDERGROUND CABLES

VALPOI

A major power outage in many parts of Savarde-Sattari on Saturday and Sunday prompted dozens of angry locals to march to the Valpoi electricity substation office on Sunday night.
Frequent problems with the Aerial Bunched Cables (ABC) in the last two weeks have caused regular power outages in different parts of Sattari taluka.
About a fortnight ago, residents of Brahmakarmali, Shelap and Shingane in Nagargao panchayat area had marched to the Valpoi electricity substation office and expressed their anger over disruptions in power supply.
The electricity department later restored power supply by replacing the old connections of the ABCs.
“On Saturday, power supply was disrupted at Karanzol, Kumthol and Karamli in Sawarde panchayat. Power supply was restored late Saturday night after complaints from locals, but there was another power outage on Sunday morning,” complained Batu Gawde, a senior citizen from Karanzol.
Citizens became agitated as electricity supply was not restored throughout the day and dozens of residents later marched to the Valpoi electricity substation office on Sunday night to voice their anger. Power supply was restored on Monday morning.
Locals have, however, demanded the replacement of ABCs with underground cables and put forth their demand before local MLA and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane.
“The electricity department should pay serious attention to this constant problem as erratic power supply also affects water supply. We demand uninterrupted power supply by laying of underground cable in place of ABCs,” said Batu Gawde.
