American defence giant Lockheed Martin clearly said that they would like to make a lot more of their C-130J Super Hercules and F-16V in India. This announcement was made on the sidelines of the ongoing DefExpo 2016 at Quitol, Quepem.
Randy Howard, director of F-16 business development, Lockheed Martin, said, “We have set up production facilities of F-16 in Turkey, Holland and South Korea. So, we know how to go to other countries and start manufacturing operations. We think there’s a need for India to get into F-16 production.”
Howard continued, “To this end, discussions are already taking place between the governments of the US and India."
In addition to this, Abhay Paranjape, director of business development, air mobility & maritime programs, Lockheed Martin, said, “We are all for ‘Make in India’ for F-16 and C-130J Super Hercules.”
C-130J Super Hercules is the proven standard in tactical airlift. Moreover, it has several non-military applications as well. Paranjape informed, “We are in talks for C-130J with even meteorological department of India, as it can be used for weather monitoring services as well."
F-16 is an advanced fighter aircraft. Howard also informed that six of these F-16s were delivered to Indian government in 2011 and an additional six will be delivered in 2017.
