MAPUSA
Does the staff of the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) play hokey-pokey with files? If city-fathers are to be believed the civic staff may be playing games or are just plain inefficient as files were not attended to promptly.
Some councilors pointed out that files related to routine matters remain stuck for months for reasons best known to the civic staff.
“Sometimes people who come for trade licence or house tax transfer in the municipality fail to get their work done for almost three months,” said Tushar Tople, councilor of ward 10.
“I had personally moved one file which took a month to reach the concerned clerk. It’s a clear case of care a damn attitude among the civic staff,” he added.
Coming up with a similar grouse, councilor from ward 17, Rajsingh Rane said that several files pertaining to transfer of shops within blood relations get delayed unnecessarily.
“The council could have earned so much revenue if the files were cleared promptly. But for some unknown reasons the files get stuck for months together,” Rane
pointed.
Councilor from ward 5, Madhumita Narvekar also informed that that she faced similar experiences with her work in the council
The councilors slammed the chalta hai attitude of the civic staff and demanded some action so that this was not repeated in future.
“Imagine if a file moved by a councilor gets stuck or misplaced in the municipality, what will be the fate of the common man?” Tople said speaking to The Goan.
Rajsingh Rane said that he expected the staff to be more prompt and responsive to the concerns of the common man.
Chairperson, Ryan Braganza said that this was not the norm among the civic staff but all the same assured to look into the matter.
“It’s something to do with routine matters. We will look into it,” Braganza said.
Incidentally, the council has already installed CCTV cameras in the municipality and on Friday, last week, decided to use GPS to track movement of the civic staff.
