Loose talk

After reading statements made by Rahul Gandhi the question that pops up is, what is the Congress doing in Bihar? The party is virtually non-existent in the state and the last time it had any significant role to play was 25 years ago. The main players are the BJP and JD(U) led alliances with the Congress struggling to make a mark. Even as the campaign gets underway, party members are not sure where they stand and with Rahul Gandhi taking on Modi on every possible issue, the focus on Bihar seems to have dimmed. Does the Congress really know what it wants to do in the state? Or has it given up? State elections are almost always fought on local issues and it will do the party no good to target a prime minister who is still considered a winner. Narendra Modi might not have been able to deliver on all promises, but he is still the best bet and every time he goes abroad, FDI flows into the country. Nearly two-thirds of the $30 billion that has entered through the FDI channel has come from countries visited by Modi. So the scion of the Gandhi family and heir apparent of the Congress will have to take a closer look at what is happening in Bihar if he wants the party to get a toe-hold in the state.
