PORVORIM
A love triangle ended in the murder of an employee at a hair-cutting salon in Alto-Porvorim on Monday night. Five persons have been arrested in this connection, while the prime accused is absconding.
Porvorim Police said the prime accused, Vikas Yadav of Orda-Candolim, was in love with a woman from Porvorim. The deceased, Rehbar Khan (22), a native of Uttar Pradesh, who was working with a hair-cutting salon at Alto-Porvorim along the Porvorim-Sangolda road, fell in love with the same woman.
Khan had come to Goa recently and was working with the hair-cutting salon since January 5.
Rehbar Khan used to phone the woman very often to express his love and also threatened her to make viral a video in his possession if she did not agree with his demands. The woman then informed Yadav about the harassment by Rehbar Khan. Yadav told the woman to bring Khan to him. Accordingly, the woman took Rehbar Khan for a walk on Monday evening and introduced him to Yadav.
Yadav later abducted Khan and took him to Guirim, where around 10 friends were waiting for him. Yadav and his friends assaulted him. Khan died some time later and Yadav placed the body of Khan near the Audit Bhavan at Porvorim.
On the basis of phone calls made by Yadav on Monday, Porvorim Police arrested Khatesh Kandolkar, Suman Barik, Sachin Sahani, Tanay Kandolkar, and Sachin Singh, all in their twenties and residents of Candolim. The main accused, Vikas Yadav, is absconding and the police has dispatched their teams to locate him.
According to police, five accused have stated that Khan was alive when Yadav put him in the car. Their intention was not to murder Khan. There were a few more youths along with them but in darkness, they could not identify them.
The accused claimed that they came to know about Khan’s murder through newspapers on Wednesday morning and maintained that Yadav appears to have murdered him on the way to Alto-Porvorim.
Police said the exact sequence of events would be known only on the arrest of Yadav. Police have registered an offence under Section 302 read with 34 of IPC and the accused will be produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class on Thursday.
