Visitors have been flocking to bathe in the Dudhsagar river at Okamb-Dharbandora panchayat, ignoring signboards warning people to avoid swimming in the river.
Given the number of drowning cases in the past, locals have requested police to patrol the area and to stop tourists from swimming in the river.
People visit the area in large numbers, especially in April and May, to escape from the scorching heat. A large number of people are seen during the weekends, with many ignoring the warning signboards and going to swim.
Locals said the visitors do not gauge the depth of the river or the force of its flow, leading to a number of drowning cases, which have prompted authorities to install warning signboards.
