LS polls on mind, BJP sets sight on Cong turf

PANAJI: After a day-long visit to Canacona constituency, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar will visit Bicholim constituency on January 29 and Curchorem constituency on February 6.
Gearing into action for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2019, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the State plans to strengthen its organisation in the Congress-represented constituencies. In addition to the constituency represented by them, each MLA has been allotted with the task of developing an additional constituency represented by the Congress.
The party has, however, decided not to 'encroach' into the coalition-represented constituencies, though it will continue with its work in those constituencies.
BJP National General Secretary Bhupendra Yadav and National Joint General Secretary BL Santosh had a day-long meetings at the State BJP headquarters, Panaji. The morning session witnessed meeting of the social media cell, followed by meeting of MLAs, ministers and MPs. This was followed by a meeting of the core committee of the party. The meeting of party's office bearers was held in the evening.
Speaking to media persons, State BJP General Secretary Sadanand Shet Tanawade said, “This was a follow-up meeting after BJP’s National President Amit Shah's visit to Goa in July 2017. Nearly 22 office bearers have been entrusted with the task of working in different constituencies. The MLAs and MPs have been asked to take up the responsibility of strengthening a Congress represented constituency. We are definitely gearing up for Lok Sabha polls 2019, but moreover it is strengthening of the Party's organisation.”
After putting up a poor show at the State Legislative Assembly polls in 2017, Shah who was in Goa on July 1 and 2, 2017, had asked all the BJP MLAs to adopt a Congress-represented constituency and nurture it. He has strictly warned not to get into the constituencies represented by coalition partners.
