The Congress on Saturday announced formation of its Goa pradesh election committee, the panel considered all powerful in matters related to selection of candidates and strategy, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. It will be headed by Congress State president Amit Patkar.
Leader of the Opposition, Yuri Alemao, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha, the other two MLAs, Altone D’Costa and Carlos Alvares-Ferreira, former union minister Ramakant Khalap, Girish Chodankar, M K Shaikh, Dr Pramod Salgaocar and former Deputy Speaker Shambu Bhau Bandekar are the other members of the panel.
The chiefs of all the party frontal organisations are also members of the committee, the statement issued by AICC General Secretary (Organsiation) K C Venugopal, said.
The development gains significance in the backdrop of ongoing seat-sharing talks between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as part of the national Opposition alliance “ INDIA.
Reports emerging from Delhi after two rounds of talks between the Congress and the AAP, said that the latter has staked claim to one of the two Goa seats during the talks.
