The Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), Goa unit has laid emphasis on use of drones and artificial intelligence (AI) for monitoring crop growth, health and its protection.
During a recently held special session on ‘Revitalizing Goan Agriculture and Allied Sectors for doubling Farmer's Income’, ICAR-CCARI Director Dr Parveen Kumar, stressed on use of drone technology and AI to reduce drudgery.
He said that AI and drone technology are used to monitor near real-time crop health.
In his presentation, Kumar flagged issues of Goan agriculture like land ownership, low productivity of crops, horticulture and livestock, soil salinization and water scarcity during rabi season among many others.
“He stressed on creating a value chain-supply network by post-harvest management to increase farmers’ income and use of drone technology and AI to reduce drudgery, save time and increase income,” ICAR said.
He also discussed the solutions like development of low-cost water harvesting structures, adoption of improved varieties developed by ICAR-CCARI, adoption of kulagar based IFS for maximum and effective utilization of vertical space, ICAR added.
Kumar also highlighted the importance of agro-eco tourism to attract the youth in agriculture.
