MARGAO
The first day of Tika Utsav in Margao on Monday started on a sombre note at the Adarsh high school with just 75 persons turning up to take the jab. The day saw BJP and Congress in a no-holds-barred game of one-upmanship over the exercise.
Margao Urban Health Officer Dr Anju Kharangate, who was present at the inauguration of the Tika Utsav, informed that 75 citizens from Margao were vaccinated at the Adarsh High school. The four-day vaccination programme in Margao is spread at four different centres in the city.
Incidentally, while the health care workers had to contend with only 75 persons for the Tika Utsav at Margao, the Margao Urban Health centre and the vaccination centre at the TB hospital too received lukewarm response to the Covid vaccination programme.
At the Margao Urban Health centre, less than 100 persons, around 93 to be precise, turned up to take the jab, with majority of the beneficiaries being the front line workers.
The story at the TB hospital vaccination centre was no different. A bare 65 persons turned up for the vaccination on Monday, out of which 35 beneficiaries were frontline workers, while the remaining 30 local persons, indicating the lukewarm response for the Covid vaccination.
