The mahajans led by Keri-Sattari Sarpanch Laxman Gawas submitted a memorandum to the mamlatdar requesting him to consider the matter seriously for the benefit of the devasthan.
It may be recalled that there was a rift among the mahajans over rights in the functioning of the devasthan, which then led to law and order problem in 2013. Considering it as serious matter, the Sattari Magistrate decided to lock the devasthan in 2013 and since then all the religious rituals and traditional activities were stopped.
According to the mahajans, devotees from various parts of Goa and neighbouring states could not visit the devasthan for the last four years due to the problem. The condition of the devasthan building is also deteriorating and there is a fear that it may collapse.
"Considering it as a serious matter, some mahajans first submitted a memorandum to the Sattari magistrate on June 26 to look into the matter, but nothing happened," said mahajan Krishna Majik.
Now, four mahajans (Samaj) - Majik, Gawas, Halid and Rane are in favour of resuming the rituals at the Devasthan and also undertake urgent repair on it. They submitted a memorandum to the magistrate seeking permission to resume the rituals.
Magistrate Rajesh Azgaonkar said the memorandum will be sent to the North Goa Collector for necessary action.
Speaking to The Goan, Laxman Gawas said the Keri devasthan is considered as an important religious centre in the State and the rituals need to be resumed as early as possible to facilitate the devotees.
