MARGAO
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Friday urged Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to make the Old Collectorate building at Margao citizen friendly, with a plea to the government to get a permanent lift operator at the building.
The three-time Congress MLA pointed out that Goemkars residing in Margao and its surrounding and nearby villages find the ground plus four floors of the Old Collectorate building, not a citizen friendly one. “In this regard I have written a letter to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to make the Old Collectorate building citizen friendly. I have tried to draw the attention of Chief Minister about the difficult task of reaching the various offices housed in Margao’s Old Collectorate building such as Women and Child Development on the 4th floor, Civil Supply on the 3rd floor, Tribal Welfare on the 2nd floor,” he said.
Saying that it is taxing for pregnant women or elderly women to climb the stairs, Reginaldo said the building has a single lift which is an old manual one and that too which has to be operated by the people using it because there is no lift operator. “If there is a breakdown in the lift, people have to climb all the stairs. For example, it becomes a harrowing task for women especially pregnant women who have a query or task in hand regarding the Mamta Scheme, Griha Aadhar scheme, etc, they have to climb all the four floors,” he said.
