Days after he launched a tirade against Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias for “zero development” in the constituency, a no-confidence motion is staring at Cuncolim Municipal Council Vice-chairperson Shashank Desai.

Shashank’s fate will be decided on September 21 as the Director of Municipal Administration has issued a note to convene a special meeting to consider the no-confidence motion against the Vice-chairperson.

A total of seven members in the 12-member Cuncolim Municipal Council, including Chairperson Lavita Mascarenhas and former Vice-chairperson Mario Moraes, have signed the notice of

no-confidence motion against Shashank. Besides Chairperson Lavita Mascarenhas and former Vice-chairperson Mario Moraes, the no-confidence motion has been signed by Virendra Y Dessai, Ashok K Fadte, Kiran P Naik, Udesh Gaonkar and Angela Luis Painginkar.

What came as a surprise to many in Cuncolim was that the ruling six-member group headed by Lavita Mascarenhas managed to secure the signature of former Vice-chairperson Mario Moraes since it was an open secret that Moraes did not gel well with some members of the ruling group.

Interestingly, while the seven-member group entered the notice of no-confidence motion in the Director of Municipal Administration’s office on Monday (today), the DMA took quick cognizance and acted promptly by issuing a note to convene a special meeting on September 21.

CMC Vice-chairperson had accused Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias of zero development in Cuncolim after he was arrested by the Cuncolim police for assaulting a citizen, who had complained against him for constructing his house illegally.
