Pernem police arrested a 40-year-old man from Kavthani in Sindhudurg-Maharashtra on charges of assaulting a woman and robbing her gold mangalsutra and mobile phone, all worth about Rs 80,000.
In a police complaint, Prathamesh Prasad (25), a native of Bihar but residing in Pernem stated that the incident took place at about 7.40 pm on November 5, when an unknown person trespassed into his house. The accused assaulted his mother, Prabhawati Prasad (51) with a koita, causing injuries to her and robbed a gold mangalsutra and mobile phone, all worth about Rs 80,000.
The victim who sustained injuries on her head and other parts of her body and is undergoing treatment at GMC hospital, Bambolim and was not in a state of mind to reveal the details. Police registered the complaint under Section 311, 333 of BNS.
During investigation and acting on technical surveillance, the accused Rupesh Kambli (40) was apprehended at Naibag-Pernem. He later confirmed his involvement in the crime and was placed under arrest on Saturday.
Further investigation is in progress by PSI Sahil S Naik under the supervision of Pernem PI Sachin Lokre, SDPO Pernem Ashish Shirodkar and under the overall supervision of SP (North) Porvorim Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
