Man arrested for assaulting cook

Mapusa Police on Tuesday arrested a man on charges of assaulting a hotel cook and demanding money from him.

According to Mapusa Police, Irfan Siddique from Carraswado-Mapusa complained that he was closing the restaurant at Carraswaddo at about 11.30 pm on Sunday when the accused Shailash Garad alias Gargatlo approached him and demanded Rs 5,000.
Police said when the complainant refused to give money, the accused Garad abused Siddique and later assaulted him, due to which he sustained head injury. The accused fled from the site and the victim was shifted to District Hospital at Mapusa.
Acting on the complaint, Mapusa Police booked the accused under Sections 504, 506, 427, 385 and 324 of IPC and arrested him on Tuesday. PSI Kiran Naik is investigating the case.
One held for stealing battery in Mapusa
MAPUSA: Mapusa Police arrested a 25-year-old native of Hubli on charges of stealing battery of a concrete mixer deployed in the renovation work of old Asilo hospital at Mapusa on Tuesday.
According to Mapusa Police, incident occurred at 8.15 am when the accused Krishna Lamani removed the battery, worth Rs 15,000, from the concrete mixer.
Police said when the accused was about to escape from the site, the workers caught him and gave him a sound thrashing before handing him over to the police.
The company supervisor filed a police complaint and the accused was later booked under Section 275 of IPC and recovered the stolen battery. Police Constable Kishore Naik is investigating the case.
